Farewell Year 9

Unfortunately today was the last day for my Year 9 ICT class - next term they will start the next stage of the technology rotation. For the last two weeks we've been creating PowerPoint shows, to highlight some of the things they have learnt in the course. I'd love to share all their presentations here, but it is just too many so the class have selected a few for me to include here. Well done everyone - you are all fantastic!!

Year 9 Morphing & Animation

Morphing is not only fun, but also an excellent way to graphically illustrate changes from then to now, before/after etc. Consider creating your own morphed images for inclusion in presentations. Year 9 have been experimenting with the free morphing software, Sqirlz Morph.

We've also been creating our own animations (more info about that below, in Year 10 posting. Once again I've put these together in Windows Movie Maker, for inclusion here.

Digital Photography for the Web

Adding photos to web pages requires a few more skills than just taking the photos. You want them to look as good as possible, and be sure that they will load quickly.

For a few wee tips, go to my Digital Photography page.

Today we experimented with making a flash slideshow, which can easily be added to a web page. We used an incredibly easy (no instruction necessary), free program called 'Flash Slideshow Maker' and were really delighted with the results.

For the majority of us who don't have PhotoShop at home, here's an online photo editor that has some pretty cool features - FotoFlexer.

Free Rice

FreeRice has two goals:

1. Provide English vocabulary to everyone for free.

2. Help end world hunger by providing rice to hungry people for free.

Check it out at www.freerice.com

Ergonomics

ICT105 experimented with Google Presentations, all working together online to create one presentation. The information contained in their presentation should help you with your 2780 assessment.

Animations

Year 10 has had a great time creating their own GIF animations. Have a look at their creations:

Create your own animations at home, using Microsoft Paint, and the free UnFreez Gif Animator. Download here

I've put them together as a movie, using Windows Movie Maker (free download). Free video instruction tutorials on Movie Maker are available at Atomic Learning.

Ethical Issues in Presentations

Before embarking on a PowerPoint presentation, it is important that you are aware of the ethical / legal issues involved. Here is some information from Katie and Bex.
